Assault Rifle Ban | NRA’s Illogical 2nd Amendment Argument

Washington (Gallant Gold Media Hill Report | Analysis | September 4, 2019)

The red flags and warning signs are everywhere. The time has come to act definitively on common sense gun legislation
and stop punting this vital life-saving, society-saving, democracy-saving, America-saving legislation down the road. #EnoughIsEnough.

Here are the facts:

  • 2nd Amendment: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
  • The 2nd Amendment was written using critical commas that have further exasperated clarification of the Amendment’s exact meaning.
  • However, if we dig deeper, we can clearly see that our founders were very awareST-SAGA-CovFrnt-72-250
of human evil and it’s potential harm to democracy and thus created numerous checks & balances, most notably our three branches of government.
  • Further, throughout the 185 Federalist Papers, written for the purpose of justifying the need for a federal government as well as a Constitution, every single one of the letters highlights the importance of checking evil
  • The concept of “checks & balances” is ingrained in our rule of law, our institutions, and throughout American society and shouldn’t be foreign to any American
  • Checks & balances apply to gun ownership as well, and supports the concept of common sense gun legislation
  • Assault rifles and high capacity magazines are weapons of war and are NOT meant for civilians or self-defense

Screen Shot 2019-09-04 at 2.44.38 PM.png

  • We had an effective Assault Weapons Ban from 1994 – 2004 that President Bush foolishly did NOT renew (Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, passed by a narrow margin of 4 votes, signed by President Clinton.)
  • The fact that assault rifle owners are threatening violence if their weapons of war are banned, is the very reason they need to be banned. For an American to believe that the way to resolve differences in a democracy is to slaughter those who don’t agree with them is a huge wake up call to all political leaders for the urgent need to #DoSomething.
  • In 2008, the Supreme Court ruled on District of Columbia v. Heller, whereby Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia ruled that even though the 2nd Amendment states “well regulated militia” it applies to personal protection as well, putting an end to the debate about whether or not the 2nd Amendment applies to the general public. However, Scalia did clarify that the public’s gun ownership can be regulated.

“…not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.” ~Antonin Scalia, Supreme Court Associate Justice, 2008 ruling, District of Columbia v. Heller

  • On January 9, 2019, Senior Senator Dianne Feinstein of California again Sponsored and Introduced S. 66: Assault Weapons Ban of 2019. This is a bill “to regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.”
  • Earlier versions of Assault Weapons Ban were introduced on November 8, 2017, following theOctober 2, 2017 Las Vegas slaughter of 58 using an assault rifle, and on March 14, 2013, three months after the world-altering Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre of 28 elementary school students and several teachers. If these shockingly vicious annihilations didn’t wake-up our representatives, we can’t give up… we simply must try harder. Case in point, the shutdown outrage became so forceful, that it even brought Mitch McConnell back to life.
  • The next step for the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 is to be considered by the judiciary committee. Unbelievably, the bill only has a 4% chance of being enacted.

Screen Shot 2019-09-04 at 2.41.27 PM.png

  • There are 28 Democrat co-sponsors of the ban, all 28 joined the day it was introduced. There are no GOP sponsors.

S. 66: Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 co-sponsors:

  • Blumenthal, Richard (D-CT)
  • Booker, Cory (D-NJ)
  • Cardin, Ben (D-MD)
  • Carper, Tom (D-DE)
  • Casey, Bob (D-PA)
  • Duckworth, Tammy (D-IL)
  • Durbin, Richard (D-IL)
  • Gillibrand, Kirsten (D-NY)
  • Harris, Kamala (D-CA)
  • Hassan, Maggie (D-NH)
  • Hirono, Mazie (D-HI)
  • Klobuchar, Amy (D-MN)
  • Markey, ED (D-MA)
  • Menendez, Bob (D-NJ)
  • Merkley, Jeff (D-OR)
  • Murphy, Chris (D-CT)
  • Murray, Patty (D-WA)
  • Reed, Jack (D-RI)
  • Sanders, Bernie (D-VT)
  • Schatz, Brian (D-HI)
  • Schumer, Chuck (D-NY)
  • Shaheen, Jeanne (D-NY)
  • Smith, Tina (D-MN)
  • Van Hollen, Chris (D-MD)
  • Warner, Mark (D-VA)
  • Warren, Elizabeth (D-MA)
  • Whitehouse, Sheldon (D-RI)
  • Wyden, Ron (D-OR)

It’s time to act one and for all to get S66 passed. Our lives and our democracy are at stake.

NRA | Destruction from Within

Washington (Gallant Gold Media Hill Report | Perspective | April 28, 2019) –  During the Age of Enlightenmentfollowing the Dark Ages, when scholars and philosophers around the globe were desperately trying to figure out what was true, what the facts were, they began relying on the scientific method to discover truth. Francis Bacon created this “New [Scientific] Method‘ – an updated iteration of Aristotle’s “demonstration method” – in 1620. The scientific method is just as valuable and vital today in verifying what’s true as it was 400 years ago.

What is the Scientific Method:

  • Make an observation
  • Ask questions
  • Form a hypothesis
  • Test the hypothesis, and revise as needed; then retest the updated hypothesis
  • Draw a conclusion

In dealing with our President’s aversion to facts, deciphering what’s true is tricky. Factor in the lies and delusions of Trump’s inner circle and GOP supporters, and it becomes a quagmire.

Thankfully, everything in Trump’s twisted reality rests on twisted hypotheses. Both are provable using the scientific method. Becoming proficient in highlighting the flawed hypotheses, makes it much easier to throw away the entire argument.

Take for example, guest speaker Chris Cox introducing Trump at the annual NRA Convention on April 26, 2019:

“Has any president in American history ever needed the job less? (Yes. MOST of the presidents in American history have needed the jobs less. Trump is the one who needed it the most. It was his desperate attempt to ward off a 7th bankruptcy.) Think about it. He spent 70 years of his life becoming one of the most successful businessmen ever. (False. Trump’s willingness to “die on this hill” by refusing to turn over his tax returns, leads the public to believe that his success is in dispute. What does “success” mean anyway? Financial achievement? But if Trump’s fortune, or lack there of, was accomplished by breaking the law and committing crimes, is that success?) And not one second of those 70 years was spent as a politician. (Irrelevant.) These are supposed to be the years where he relaxes and enjoys the fruits of is hard work and success. (There are no fruits. That’s the point. This presidency was his Hail Mary Pass to keep the Trump Organization afloat.) But he gave that up for his country. (False. He didn’t give it up, and it wasn’t for his country.) And what does he get for that sacrifice? An absolutely unprecedented and savage onslaught of despicable attacks. They’re trying to destroy his reputation and even his family. And they’re willing to say and do anything it takes to make his life a living hell. (Terrifying that NRA is making this false assertion at a huge NRA event filled with White Nationalists who have declared ‘Civil War’ on all those who oppose Trump.)”

So, here we have a massive NRA event, filled with extremists, who are wrongly fed propaganda, which seems highly probable will compel them to feel it their patriotic duty to attack those who oppose Trump and who are “making his life a living hell.”

There must be a point where all these false statements with ill intent are criminal. With this fantasized introduction, followed by Trump’s continuation of warped reality, it seems clear that Trump and the NRA have crossed into criminal territory and that by doing so, they’ve fueled the domestic extremism that incites so much violence. And now, as if to prove the point, a domestic extremist has opened fire at a synagog on Passover in Poway, CA killing 1 and wounding 3, this less than 24 hours after the disturbing NRA whitewash.

The silver lining out all this darkness, is that the NRA is imploding, suffering a $64 million loss for combined 2016 & 2017 tax year. Members have fled following the link of Russia funneling money to political campaigns through the NRA. Building an organization on sand, on false hypotheses, only has one possible outcome when the thrashing storm finally rolls in.

Red Flags | Who placed these images in DC?

Washington (Gallant Gold Media Hill Report | Perspective | March 25, 2019) –  Tuesday morning March 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM, the Full Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator Lindsey Graham, will be discussing guidelines for state Red Flag Laws. Sadly, the American public has been plagued by distressing news stories the past five years of numerous gun massacres where many of the attackers displayed alarming warning signs indicating they were a threat to the public, but so few picked up on it or knew how to proceed when they did recognize the signs.

The Senate Red Flag Laws Hearing couldn’t be taking place at a better time. Recent Red Flags have sprung up just yards away from Dirksen Senate Office Building where the hearing is taking place. Are any of the Senator’s who’ll be be discussing this most important National Security issue aware of the Red Flags surrounding National Mall? Does anyone in DC know how to interpret these alarming symbols?

HillReport2.3-25-2019a.jpg

Or are these weird, scary gun-toting icons in high trafficked crosswalks surrounding National Mall, strategically placed around the Smithsonians, just interesting characters? Perhaps readers can decide. The information has been shared with police.

The Witnesses who’ll be testifying at the Senate Red Flag Laws Hearing are:

  • Mr. Ronald Honberg, Senior Policy Advisor, National Alliance on Mental Illness
  • Ms. Amanda Wilcox, Legislative Chair, Brady California
  • Sheriff Ric L. Bradshaw, Sheriff, Palm Beach County
  • Ms. Kimberly Wyatt, Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney
  • Mr. Dave Kopel, Research Director, Independence Institute

HllReport2.3-25.2019c.jpg

So the weird, scary gun-toting icons hiding in plain sight, seem to be quite instructive, with every single detail representing something significant to the various people involved with what might be a plot to attack the public. This one above is particularly alarming, especially when factoring in it’s location on National Mall.

HillReport2.3-25-2019d.jpg

What’s challenging is that the potential meaning behind these mysterious figures seems to change with each new discovery.

HillReport2.3-25-2019e.jpg

Initially, there only seemed to be one. The big one in the header (is the body an upside down pentagon?), which was discovered on Valentine’s Day 2019. The See Something Say Something tip line was called and the image was texted. The next day, the Coast Guard white nationalist who planned to “kill nearly everyone on earth,” particularly massacre Democrats and journalists, was arrested. Coincidentally, the image is fixed on the crosswalk leading to the front lawn of the Capitol, closest to the Peace Statue on the Senate side, crossing from the reflection pond. The bent knee points at the Capitol. Double-fisted guns are terrifying. It seems highly probable these signify assault rifles.

HillReport2.3-25-2019f.jpg

A second was discovered a month after the first, on March 14, 2019, the day before the New Zealand massacre that slaughtered 49. Three more were located within a week of the second. And ten more were uncovered a week later on Sunday March 24, 2019. Major alarm bells are going off for everyone hopefully. These are clearly red flags of sorts. Clues indicating a possible attack?

HillReport2.3-25.2019g.jpg

This last icon with arms dropped, no guns, seems to emphasize more clearly that the others are indeed carrying multiple, big guns. So then is this friendlier bloke suppose to represent the player who’s a solid cover, a trust worthy tour director perhaps. Hmm, yes, a tour director. Someone who’s highly regarded and respected on National Mall, yet all the while is directing an army of nefarious bad actors manning their battle stations in the white and yellow buses that line Jefferson, Madison, Constitution and Independence?

Hopefully the Senate Judiciary Committee can find some answers to these frightening questions during their majorly important Senate Red Flag Laws Hearing.

Trump Tweets | Covert Signals?

Washington (Gallant Gold Media Hill Report |Opinion | March 18, 2019) –  The horrific slaughter of 50 innocent lives in New Zealand on Friday March 15, 2019, by a proud white supremacist who pushed himself to the extreme far right online, and sought to thrill his fellow white supremacist comrades by filming the massacre live on Facebook, has made us question whether there’s a connection between Trump’s harsh rhetoric and the escalation of white nationalist violence.

The white nationalist toxic hatred for all non-whites has been building for two years, seething to the surface in Charlottesville on August 12, 2017, and then erupting out of control.

IMG_5447.jpg

The world was stunned by Trump’s refusal to condemn the white nationalist violence in Charlottesville on August 12, 2017, instead stating “You also had some very fine people on both sides.” This tone deaf remark, following the death of Heather Heyer, conveyed a strong subliminal message that Trump was supporting the white nationalist movement.

After learning that the white supremacist terrorist in New Zealand wrote a 74 page manifesto using the same rhetoric as Trump, this alarming concern that Trump might be inciting violence has to be addressed.

Trump’s tweets and inflammatory public statements are red flags. Michael Cohen revealed to Americans in his public hearing that Trump speaks in coded messages to avoid being accountable, just like a MOB boss. But his words are still triggers, regardless. During Trump’s bizarre two hour CPAC speech on March 2, 2019, he strongly referenced Make America Great Again, emphasizing the color red to such a troubling degree that many were concerned. One could’t help but wonder if he was emphasizing blood red as the reason why red is key. Trump appeared to be promoting violence by emphasizing the importance of (blood) red.

“The key is in the color. Make America Great Again. Right? Right?” ~ Donald J. Trump, March 2, 2019 | CPAC

Sunday March 17, 2019 | St. Patrick’s Day. So now, one can’t help but wonder if a tweet like this one on Sunday, is actually a coded message promoting more violence, especially since Trump posted the same tweet on Wednesday of last week, which was immediately followed by a violent hate massacre two days later. Coincidence or intentional?

Screen Shot 2019-03-18 at 9.10.17 PM.png

Wednesday March 13, 2019. And was this a trigger? After planning for two years, did the New Zealand terrorist perhaps see this Trump tweet one day, then strike the next?

Screen Shot 2019-03-18 at 9.11.58 PM.png

We need to track this. There doesn’t seem to be a cohesive strategy for preventing domestic terror attacks in the US right now. Is that intentional?

HR8 |Background Check House Vote Feb 27, 2019

Washington (Gallant Gold Media Hill Report | Perspective | February 25, 2019) –  Following HR8’s approval by the Judiciary Committee on February 13, 2019, the Committee has moved one step further in bringing HR8 to the House floor for a full vote this week, barring any unforeseen political conflicts. However, Capitol Hill promises to be a turbulent landscape in the upcoming days, with Representatives being pulled in many important directions. Thus, timing the HR8 vote is critical. We need all the sponsors and supporters to be present for the vote, which will hopefully take place on Thursday, February 28, 2019, the 25 year anniversary of The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (the original background check bill) which went into effect on February 28, 1994. Interestingly, the initial background check legislation was first introduced in Congress by NY Representative Chuck Schumer in 1991.

The next few days on the Hill appear extremely busy:

  • TUESDAY Feb 26House vote to nullify Trump’s national emergency
    • House Rules Committee Hearing on Migrant Family Separation Policy
    • House Financial Services Committee Hearing with Credit Bureau CEO’s testifying
  • WEDNESDAY Feb 27 – Oversight Committee public hearing with Michael Cohen on Wednesday February 27, which may be the most significant event of the year if the Mueller report isn’t shared with the public
    • Full House Vote on HR8 Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019

HR8 now has 232 bipartisan co-sponsors. The significant bipartisan support for the bill stems from 97% of the American public believing strongly that background checks should be required for every single gun sale. Background checks protect the public from those who seek gun ownership with ill intent. HR8 advocates simultaneously believe in the Second Amendment, and do support the right to bear arms, yet understand that common sense gun legislation makes sense. The success of our democracy stems from the fact that it’s stabilized by the rule of law. Borders and boundaries are essential. Evil exists in the world. The first three words of the Second Amendment clearly state: “A well regulated…”

HR8 | Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 Explained: On January 8, 2019 Representative Mike Thompson of California’s 5th District introduced HR8. This simple, common sense gun bill is very basic : To require a background check for every firearm sale. The current background check bill has several significant loopholes that have proven deadly. Guns sold at gun shows, and guns sold among family and friends, currently do not require background checks.

Screen Shot 2019-02-25 at 9.29.39 PM.png

The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act requires that before a firearm is purchased through a federally licensed dealer, manufacturer or importer, a background check must be performed. There are a list of nine prohibitions that would prevent approval. The operative words in the Brady Bill are “federally licensed.” Since the majority of sellers at gun shows, and on the streets, as well as family and friends, aren’t federally licensed, a loophole was soon exploited by those falling under the following nine prohibitions:

  1. fugitive from justice
  2. convicted in any court for a crime punishable by more than one year in prison
  3. dishonorably discharged from military
  4. illegal alien
  5. user or addicted to a controlled substance
  6. renounced citizenship
  7. has a restraining order against them
  8. domestic violence, convicted in any court of misdemeanor crime
  9. in a mental institution or adjudicated as mentally defective

HR8 eliminates these existing loopholes, making it far more difficult for those who plot to harm the American public to succeed. The Second Amendment was intended for self-protection, not public annihilation.

HR8 Passes Judiciary Committee | 1st Time Gun Legislation Passes in Two Decades

Washington (Gallant Gold Media Hill Report) –  It took all day, and well into the evening, but patience did not disappoint. HR8 was approved by the House Judiciary Committee and will now move forward to the House floor for a full vote. This typically takes place within 100 days of being approved by the Committee. We should know the outcome by early May. From there it proceeds to the Senate floor for another full vote. The Senate will be a much tougher battle of course, however, HR8 has 231 bipartisan cosponsors so there is much hope it will pass the Senate as well.

HR8 | Bittersweet Gift Planned for February 13, 2019

Washington (Gallant Gold Media Hill Report) – Today House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler announced that the Judiciary Committee will markup HR8 next Wednesday February 13, 2019. This means the divisive committee will decide whether to amend, accept or reject HR8. With a Democratic majority, along with bipartisan support for HR8, it’s expected that the bill will be accepted and move to the House floor for a full vote by the end of May.

The markup for HR8 will be taking place the day before the tragic one year anniversary of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Wednesday February 14, 2018, when seventeen innocent MSJ students were slaughtered at school. Hundreds of survivors became a powerful force, uniting millions of students around the country to let their legislators know that enough is enough. No more thoughts and prayers, they would only accept action, kicking off the forceful March For Our Lives movement that helped fuel the blue wave on November 6, 2018.
