How US Schools Have Become Climate Action Rock Stars

Washington (ONGC) Analysis | August 24, 2022, by Noreen Wise, Founder & CEO of Our New Green Culture, and author ; Photo credit AdobeStock

Schools are quickly becoming climate action role models. Their success is rooted in the power and effectiveness of collective action in achieving targeted results. Using a lens focused on the top 10 most critical climate actions, which are in essence the basic requirements for reducing carbon emissions, boosting biodiversity, and drawing down legacy load carbon, US schools have become the bright beacon on top of the torturous greenhouse gas reduction hill. Additionally, schools are climate action accelerators that transmit vigorous energy through a very powerful national network.

Breakthrough Tech Start-up Antora Energy to Receive $50M | Thermal Battery

Decarbonizing American industry in order to reach our Paris Agreement targets and save humanity has seemed like an impossible mission thus far. The high heat necessary to produce materials like steel, cement, paper, aluminum, plastics, chemicals, etc, which require temperatures above 1000ºC, (steel melts at 1500ºC), haven’t been achievable at a scalable cost. This is an alarming reality considering American industry must eliminate 8 gigatons of carbon (GtC) per year. That’s 8 billion tons of carbon per year by 2050, and 4 GtC by 2030. The steel industry on its own must cut 3 of the 8 GtC, and the cement industry, 2 of the 8 GtC.

Don’t Worry, Military Has BIG Plan to Cut It’s Big Carbon Footprint

Washington (ONGC) Analysis | January 9, 2022, by Noreen Wise, Founder & CEO of Our New Green Culture; image by AdobeStock

The US military is ranked number 55 out of the world’s largest carbon polluters (2019). According to Forbes Magazine, the DOD has emitted more than 1.2 GtC (billion metric tons of carbon) since the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. The military is the largest fossil fuel energy consumer in the US, and is the single biggest buyer of crude oil on the planet. But all of these missteps are about to change.

Wind Trees and Wind Walls | Wind Is Fastest Growing Clean Energy

Washington (ONGC) Analysis | January 2, 2022, by Noreen Wise, Founder & CEO of Our New Green Culture

Wind power is growing faster than any other utility, including fossil fuels, John Doerr notes in his new book, Speed & Scale, An Action Plan for Solving Our Climate Crisis NowHe explains that wind has a higher market share than solar and that these two clean energy sources naturally compliment each other rather than compete.

No Way To Avoid Pain This Decade | Only Question is How Much

Washington (GGM) Analysis | November 26, 2021 by Noreen Wise, Founder & CEO of Gallant Gold Media

Not only is climate inaction more expensive than climate action, it’s also a lot more painful.

Fact: there is absolutely no way for us to stay below 1.5ºC without experiencing pain. We have to muscle up and get ready for a whole lot of unpleasantness. Once we recognize this, it becomes much easier to make the right choices: financial (ie higher gas prices), or endless extreme weather events that result in death and destruction. There’s also high heat intensity for prolonged periods that ravage our crops and wipe out our food supply while undermining our health.

System Change NOT Climate Change | Leaders in Energy

Washington (GGM) Analysis | September 29, 2021 by author and climate journalist Noreen Wise

Can you feel it in the air all around you? The sensory clues that we pick up on just before the season changes. A shift in temperature. A new scent wafting through the air. Displays of seasonal delights appearing in the produce section of the grocery store. We recognize these subtle clues, make a mental note, and slowly begin to shift gears.
